1. Basic Victorian Corset Construction
Two-day workshop
The basis for contemporary eveningwear and many wedding gowns is the Victorian corset. You will build a double layer classic white Victorian corset. We will cover 3 basic techniques of corset building, discuss materials used – types of boning, fabrics and other unique products. Depending on sewing ability, you may leave with a completed corset.
2. Personal Bra Making: Create Your Own Custom Made Bra
Two-day workshops for those with strong sewing skills
No matter how perfect your outer garment looks on a hanger, it won’t look its best on you, unless you are also wearing a bra that fits properly. If you are into precision sewing and are looking for a bit of a challenge, then these are classes you will enjoy. For all bra classes we use the professional pattern developed by bra maker Beverly Johnson. This will be custom fitted and altered specifically for you.
2.A Partial Band Underwire Bra
You will make a white underwire bra. (Your first bra will be your muslin). On the second day, to really strengthen your bra making skills, you will be making another bra. If you do not wish to have an underwired bra, please take course # 2b - Full Band Bra. Ask for your class supply list.
2.B Full Band Bra – With Or Without Underwire
You will make a white full band bra with optional underwire. As in course 2a during the two days, two bras will be constructed. This is a totally different bra from the one made in course 2a. Ask for your supply list.
3. Refresher Class
One-day project workshop
For those who took a course in the past and need a refresher. You will receive up to date course notes as well as your pattern that has been altered to fit you. For this class only, you may bring your own fabrics or buy them on the day of the class from Bras by Lucy. All other supplies are available from Bras by Lucy.
4. Advanced Class: The Ultimate Custom Made Bra Look
One-day Project Workshop for those who have taken a bra making class
Once you have mastered bra making in one of my bra classes, you’re ready for the world of the designer bra! In this advanced class, we will work on ways to improve and vary the look of the basic bra. You will learn to work with foam to design your own cups. You will make designer touches using exciting fabric and lace combinations copied from ready-to-wear! Upon request, a 2nd day is available to learn conversion from back closure to front closure, change to swimwear closure and much more. Ask for your supply list.
5. Top Drawer Panties
1 day Project Workshop for all levels of sewing skill
What better companion for your new bras than custom made panties to match? In the morning you will make one pair of panties sized to fit you! In the afternoon you will learn the techniques that make designer panties so expensive and so easy for you to copy at home. You will make at least one more pair. Get quality, fit and your own choice of fabric at a fraction of the cost of ready to wear. Ask for your supply list.
Course Fees
Workshops are priced according to venue. Lunch is included for those taking courses at our studio.
Depending on venue, lunch may be provided at workshops away from Lucy's studio. Course materials are extra. The panty class pattern, Victorian corset kit and level 1 or 2 bra kit must be purchased from Bras by Lucy. Other panty supplies are the student’s responsibility. They may be purchased from Bras by Lucy on the day of the class.
Your space in the class will be confirmed upon receipt of your 50% deposit.
Please Note:
- Students are required to bring a sewing machine in good working order, machine manual, tool kit and full sewing kit. All courses require a ¼” foot. An edge stitch foot would be beneficial for bra and corset courses. See supply list for needle requirements. Supply list will be provided at time of registration.
- Class sizes are limited to a maximum of twelve students..
- We retain the right to cancel a class if the required number of students is not met. If this occurs, as much notice as possible will be given and fees may either be refunded or, if you choose, applied to another class of your choice. We would appreciate at least one week’s notice if you are unable to attend. The student may transfer to another class or receive a refund. There is no refund for cancellations received less than seven days prior to the course.
